The Fairbanks Pioneer Home is the second of the six Pioneer Homes to open. It began serving the community at the time of the big flood of 1967. The floodwaters were so dangerous that residents, along with many other Fairbanksans, were evacuated to higher ground up the hill at the University. After the floodwaters receded and the clean up was completed, operations normalized and new residents become part of the Pioneer Home community.
