The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, provides many free educational programs for Lewis County Families.
Family-to-Family is one of these programs. This free 12-session program serves family, significant others and friends of people who live with mental illnesses. Family-to-Family is taught by trained family members who have been there. The course includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises in a group setting.
Among other things, you’ll learn about:
- Crisis management
- Problem solving
- Effective communication
- Self-care
- Stress management
- Developing confidence
- Increasing stamina
- Providing support with compassion
- Finding and using local supports and services
- Up-to-date information on mental health conditions
- Current treatments, including therapies, medications and side effects
- The impact of mental illness on the whole family
