The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. KANA provides these services on behalf of the United States Government through compacts with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), in each case pursuant to the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975 (the ISDEAA).
